Police in Uttar Pradesh have registered an FIR against the brother of dismissed sub-inspector Ramveer Kushwah for allegedly threatening the father of a deceased truck driver and attempting to force a settlement by offering ₹50 lakh. The case relates to a long-pending investigation into the suspicious death of a driver in Guna district in 2015.
According to the complaint filed at Narahat police station in Lalitpur district, Gopal Kushwah, father of the deceased Makhan Kushwah, alleged that three men came to his house on December 15. One of them identified himself as Shyamveer Kushwah, brother of Ramveer Kushwah, while the other two were unknown.
Gopal told police that the accused offered him ₹50 lakh to “settle” the case and help Ramveer obtain bail. When he refused, the men allegedly threatened him before leaving, warning him not to pursue the case further. The complainant stated that he fears harm to himself or his family if pressure continues.
Based on the complaint, Lalitpur police registered a case against Shyamveer Kushwah and two unidentified persons under Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to criminal intimidation involving threats to life or property. Police said further investigation is underway.
The matter is linked to the death of truck driver Makhan Kushwah, who died of burn injuries under suspicious circumstances in 2015 in the Dharnavada police station area of Guna district, under the then Ruthiyai outpost. Ramveer Kushwah, a former police sub-inspector, is an accused in the case, registered as Crime No. 473/2019. The victim’s family has consistently alleged foul play and claimed prolonged attempts to influence the case.
Ramveer Kushwah is currently lodged in Rewa Central Jail. He was earlier detained in Chanchoda Jail in Guna but was shifted following concerns that he could influence witnesses or evidence if kept locally. He is also facing charges in the Atmaram Pardi death and fraud case, following which he was dismissed from service.
Police officials said action will be taken based on evidence and statements recorded during the probe.
