Girl dies in Kolar: Mystery shrouds death; gunshot-like wound found near shoulder

A 10-year-old girl died under suspicious circumstances on Thursday evening in Kolar’s Rajharsh Colony in Bhopal, the police said. The girl, identified as Riya Rajak, collapsed suddenly while playing near a festive tableau with other children. Witnesses noticed a severe wound between her left shoulder and neck, resembling a gunshot injury, the police added. According to the cops, she was rushed to JK Hospital but succumbed to her injuries two hours later.

Kolar police station in-charge Sanjay Singh Soni told that Riya was the daughter of Sunil Rajak, a resident of Shashi Hi-Tech City in Rajharsh Kolar. Sunil works in water supply. The family consists of his wife and three children, including Riya, who was a school student.

Eyewitnesses said Riya suddenly collapsed while playing, and blood was seen oozing from her wound. Doctors at the hospital conducted a CT scan, but the results were inconclusive. Investigating officer in the case, Jitendra Kewat confirmed that only the full post-mortem report will reveal the actual cause of death. A forensic science team has also examined the case.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death and have launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being examined to establish the sequence of events. Officials suspect that an object came from above and struck the girl on her shoulder. Her post-mortem examination is scheduled for Friday, and the findings are expected to provide clarity.

Family members suspect that the wound may have been caused by an airgun pellet. Riya’s uncle, Ram Ratan Singh, told police that two dead pigeons were also found nearby. He suggested someone may have been shooting pigeons with an airgun when Riya was accidentally hit. However, locals reported that no gunshot sound was heard at the time.
