Gwalior Hospital HOD Accused of Harassing Nurse, Asking Her to ‘Compromise’ for Job; Two Senior Doctors Booked

A disturbing case of sexual harassment and caste-based abuse has come to light from Jaya Arogya (JAH) Super Specialty Hospital in Gwalior, where a senior doctor allegedly told a nursing officer that she would have to “compromise” to keep her job. When she refused, he reportedly held her hand and verbally abused her.

The incident occurred around 12 noon on Tuesday in the Nephrology Department HOD’s chamber, according to the police. The victim later lodged a complaint at the Kampoo Police Station.

Two Senior Doctors Named in FIR

Following her complaint, an FIR has been registered against Dr. Shivam Yadav, Head of the Nephrology Department, and Dr. Girja Shankar Gupta, the hospital superintendent. Police have begun investigating the allegations.

The 27-year-old complainant, a nursing officer from Simiriya Tanka village in Ghatigaon area, told police that she had gone to Dr. Yadav’s office to get her duty application signed when the incident took place.

“You’ll Have to Compromise for the Job”

In her statement, the nurse alleged that Dr. Yadav told her she would face workplace trouble unless she obeyed him and Dr. Gupta.

“If you want to keep this job, you’ll have to compromise. Otherwise, we’ll have you transferred somewhere you can’t work,” he allegedly said.

She further claimed that Dr. Yadav told her to “keep the medical superintendent happy,” implying inappropriate expectations from her toward Dr. Gupta.

Assault and Caste Slurs Alleged

When the nurse tried to leave the room, Dr. Yadav allegedly grabbed her hand. She managed to break free and ran out, after which the doctor reportedly used caste-based slurs and said,

“Complain wherever you want; no one can touch us.”

Frightened, the nurse called her parents and later filed a written complaint at the police station.

Police Action

SHO Amar Singh Sikarwar confirmed that a case has been registered against both doctors under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

“A woman staff member has accused two doctors of harassment and caste abuse. We have registered the case and initiated a detailed investigation,” he said.

Hospital Yet to Issue Statement

The complainant is currently posted as a nursing officer at JAH Super Specialty Hospital, where both accused doctors hold senior positions. Sources said she was only seeking a signature for her duty application when the incident occurred.

The hospital administration and health department have not yet released an official response. Internal disciplinary action may follow once the police investigation progresses, sources added
