Indore: Female ASI Dismissed for Blackmailing TI
Digital Desk
The Madhya Pradesh government has dismissed ASI Ranjana Khode over three years after the suicide of Town Inspector (TI) Hakim Singh Panwar, following a departmental inquiry that found she had blackmailed the TI, tarnishing the police’s image. Before her dismissal, Ranjana was posted in Dhar district.
Incident Details
The incident took place in June 2022 at Indore’s Regal police control room. TI Hakim Singh Panwar allegedly shot ASI Ranjana Khode with his service revolver before turning the gun on himself. Ranjana survived with a graze near her ear, while the TI succumbed to his injuries.
Initial Investigations and Complaints
· Following the attack, Ranjana filed a complaint against the TI with Chhoti Gwaltoli police, leading to an attempted murder case against the deceased TI.
· TI Panwar’s family accused Ranjana of blackmail, resulting in a case being registered against her under blackmail charges. She was later granted bail within a week.
SIT Investigation
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to probe the TI’s suicide. During the investigation, it emerged that Ranjana and Hakim Singh had a personal relationship. Based on the SIT report, her increment was stopped, and she was transferred to Dhar.
Re-investigation Ordered by Commissioner
Police Commissioner Santosh Singh, dissatisfied with the SIT findings, ordered a re-investigation led by Additional Police Commissioner RK Singh. The inquiry revealed that Ranjana had blackmailed and harassed TI Hakim Singh, damaging the department’s image. It also confirmed that Panwar had two wives and a relationship with Ranjana. The Commissioner recommended her dismissal, which was acted upon by the state government.
Family Tragedy
In the aftermath, one of Ranjana’s brothers died from burns at home a few days after the incident. Reports suggest he was under stress following the attack on Ranjana and suffered from severe depression after her arrest.
