Indore SI Beaten by Locals After Being Found at Woman’s House; 4 Booked for Attempt to Murder

A high-voltage drama unfolded in Indore’s Khajrana area on Thursday morning when a Sub-Inspector (SI) was brutally beaten by locals after being allegedly caught at a woman’s house under suspicious circumstances. The enraged crowd not only assaulted him with sticks but also attempted to strip him and tie him to an electric pole.

Incident Details

The incident occurred around 6 AM in the Khedi area of Khajrana police station limits. The woman in question is said to be estranged from her husband and involved in an ongoing marital dispute. According to locals, SI Suresh Bunkar had developed a personal connection with her during this period and had been visiting her house frequently over the past two months.

On Thursday morning, neighbors and family members reportedly caught the officer inside the woman’s house. Eyewitnesses allege that the SI appeared intoxicated and was behaving inappropriately, which enraged the crowd.

“People got angry when they saw the policeman misbehaving. Some women and men beat him up and tried to tie him to a pole,” said a local resident on condition of anonymity.

Police Faced Resistance

As soon as information about the assault reached the police control room, a team from Khajrana police station rushed to the spot. However, the officers were outnumbered by the angry crowd and faced stiff resistance. Additional reinforcements had to be summoned from Palasia control room to pacify the situation.

“The officer was safely rescued and brought to the station. We have booked four people under IPC Section 307 (Attempt to Murder), and further arrests will be made,” said ACP (Khajrana Division) in an official statement.

Previous Controversies of SI Bunkar

This is not the first time SI Suresh Bunkar has faced controversy. Two years ago, while allegedly intoxicated during duty in Lasudia area near Singapur Town, he had a dispute with local youths. That altercation turned violent, leaving him with serious injuries. A case was registered at Lasudia police station at that time, and the accused youths were paraded by police.

Current Status

SI Bunkar has been shifted to the police station and is under internal inquiry.
Medical examination reports are awaited to confirm allegations of alcohol consumption.
Four accused have been booked for attempt to murder; search is on for others involved.
Police have also detained some women for questioning in connection with the assault.
