Jitu Patwari Demands CBI Probe After Children Die from Toxic Cough Syrup

Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari has called for a thorough investigation into the deaths of children caused by contaminated ColdRif cough syrup, holding Sonu Rana, a drug dealer, and Aditya Singh, PA to the Union Health Minister, responsible for facilitating its distribution.

At a press conference, Patwari released a photo showing Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Rajendra Shukla with Sonu Rana and stated, “Sonu Rana facilitates deals between the department and drug companies. This incident requires a CBI investigation. The PS Health should be removed immediately, and an FIR must be registered against the Drug Controller.”

He alleged government negligence, noting that over 25 children have died in Madhya Pradesh due to the syrup, with 150 deaths reported nationwide in the past three months, confirmed by a Nagpur laboratory report on 19 September 2025. Patwari criticized delays in post-mortems and departmental action.

Demanding accountability, he said, “The Health Minister must resign, PS Health must be removed, and the Drug Controller must face FIRs. These were preventable deaths caused by official negligence.”

Patwari also called for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the case nationwide and announced that Congress will hold one-day fasts and protests in front of hospitals across Madhya Pradesh to demand government accountability. He praised the media for highlighting the issue.
