Knife-wielding miscreants run amok in Sagar, injure passerby; locals block road over delayed police response

Panic gripped parts of Sagar on Saturday night after a group of bike-borne miscreants armed with knives attacked passersby and shopkeepers on Vijay Talkies Road near Katra Bazaar, leaving at least one युवक injured and triggering a road blockade by angry residents.

According to police, the incident occurred late in the evening when the accused, riding motorcycles with their faces partially covered, began verbally abusing people in the busy market stretch. The situation escalated when they assaulted a young passerby, smashing a liquor bottle on his head and threatening others with knives. The injured youth later approached Kotwali police station to lodge a complaint.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers also vandalised Prakash General Store near Mata Madhiya, misbehaved with the shopkeeper and damaged property. An auto-rickshaw driver and two bike riders passing through the area were allegedly beaten during the rampage, adding to the chaos in the locality.

As news of the incident spread, residents gathered at the spot and repeatedly informed the police. However, the delay in police arrival angered locals, who blocked Vijay Talkies Road, disrupting traffic for a brief period. Protesters demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and stronger patrolling in the area. Police officials later reached the site, assured residents of swift action and managed to disperse the crowd.

Senior police officers said the entire incident was captured on nearby CCTV cameras. “Teams have been formed and footage is being scanned to identify and trace the accused. They will be arrested soon,” an officer said, adding that the attackers appeared to be deliberately creating fear.

Police have registered cases related to assault, vandalism and creating public nuisance. Security has been tightened in the area, and additional patrolling has been ordered to prevent further incidents. Authorities said further action would follow once the accused are apprehended.
