Political and administrative activity is set to intensify in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, July 19, as Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav chairs a key Cabinet meeting at the historic town of Jagdishpur in Bhopal district. The meeting comes just a day before the commencement of the Monsoon Session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly and is expected to clear several important legislative and policy proposals.

Alongside the Cabinet meeting, the state government will transfer ₹1,460.25 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) directly into the bank accounts of 10.54 lakh farmers through a single-click digital transfer. Meanwhile, the Congress Legislature Party will also meet in Bhopal to prepare its strategy for the upcoming Assembly session.

Cabinet Meeting at Historic Jagdishpur

According to the Chief Minister's schedule, Dr. Mohan Yadav will leave for Jagdishpur around 10:30 AM. After inaugurating and visiting an exhibition, he will preside over the Cabinet meeting beginning at 11:30 AM.

The Cabinet is expected to deliberate on several legislative proposals that may be introduced during the Monsoon Session, along with key policy decisions across various departments. Following the meeting, the Chief Minister is scheduled to address a press conference at around 1:30 PM, where major Cabinet decisions are likely to be announced.

₹1,460 Crore Crop Insurance Payout

A major highlight of Sunday's programme will be the disbursement of crop insurance claims under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

The government will transfer ₹1,460.25 crore directly to 10.54 lakh eligible farmers affected by crop losses. According to the state government, more than ₹30,000 crore in insurance claims has already been distributed to farmers in Madhya Pradesh under the scheme since its implementation.

The initiative aims to provide financial support to farmers affected by natural disasters and adverse weather conditions while ensuring faster direct benefit transfers.

Further Official Engagements

After completing the Jagdishpur programme, the Chief Minister will virtually participate in the Balram Krishi Mahotsav being held in Jhabua at around 2:45 PM through video conferencing.

He is expected to return to his official residence in Bhopal by 3:20 PM before attending another official meeting in the evening.

Eighth Destination Cabinet

The Jagdishpur meeting will be the eighth destination Cabinet convened by the Mohan Yadav government.

Instead of holding Cabinet meetings exclusively in Bhopal, the state government has adopted the practice of organising them at historically and culturally significant locations across Madhya Pradesh. Previous destination Cabinet meetings have been held at Shakti Bhavan (Jabalpur), Singrampur (Damoh), Maheshwar, Rajwada (Indore), Pachmarhi, Khajuraho, and Nagalwadi in Barwani district.

The initiative is intended to highlight regional heritage while drawing administrative attention to local development priorities.

Important Bills Likely to Come Up

With the Assembly's Monsoon Session beginning on July 20, several draft legislations are expected to receive Cabinet approval before being introduced in the House.

Among the proposals likely to be discussed are:

• Madhya Pradesh Highways Amendment Bill, 2026
• Madhya Pradesh Repeal Bill, 2026
• Fire Safety-related legislation
• Amendments concerning private universities
• Reforms in medical education
• Simplification of regulations under Ease of Doing Business
• Labour law reforms

The Cabinet may also deliberate on amendments relating to the Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University and the proposed Dhanvantari Health University.

Possible Discussion on Uniform Civil Code

Political attention is also focused on the possibility of discussions relating to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

Sources indicate that a draft proposal concerning issues such as marriage, divorce, registration, inheritance, family rights and the legal status of children could be placed before the Cabinet. However, no official confirmation has been issued regarding whether the proposal will receive approval.

If taken forward, the issue could become one of the major political debates during the Assembly session.

Congress Prepares Its Monsoon Session Strategy

Ahead of the Assembly session, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) will hold a meeting at the residence of Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar in Bhopal.

The opposition is expected to finalise its strategy for raising issues related to:

• Farmers' welfare
• Employment and government recruitment
• Education and healthcare
• Women's safety
• Tribal and Dalit rights
• Alleged corruption
• Fertiliser availability
• Crop losses and MSP
• Government vacancies and recruitment transparency

Congress leaders are also expected to discuss their position if any proposal related to the Uniform Civil Code is introduced during the session.

With both the ruling BJP government and the opposition Congress holding crucial meetings on Sunday, the day is expected to shape the legislative and political agenda for the Monsoon Session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly beginning on July 20.
