MP Cabinet Clears ₹47,990-Crore Development Push; Bhopal–Vidisha Road and Health Schemes Get Major Funding

The MP Cabinet has approved nearly ₹47,990 crore in proposals, including the Bhopal–Vidisha four-lane road and ₹44,515 crore for health schemes.

The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has approved development proposals worth nearly ₹47,990 crore, led by a new four-lane Bhopal–Vidisha corridor and a five-year funding commitment for major public-health programmes.

The decisions, taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, place road connectivity and healthcare at the centre of the state’s latest spending package. The Cabinet sanctioned ₹1,757.55 crore to widen the existing 44.83-km Bhopal–Vidisha road from two lanes to four lanes with paved shoulders.

The project will be executed under a hybrid annuity model. Under the financing plan, the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation will meet 40 per cent of the construction cost, including GST, through the State Highway Fund. The remaining 60 per cent will be paid from the state Budget in half-yearly instalments over 15 years.

The government says the improved corridor will support the proposed Bhopal metropolitan region and make travel between the state capital, Vidisha and nearby towns safer and faster. The road is also important for daily commuters, agricultural movement and access to Bhopal’s education and healthcare facilities.

₹44,515 crore for health programmes

The largest component of the package is a ₹44,515.13-crore allocation for continuing health schemes from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2031.

This includes ₹28,083.47 crore for the National Health Mission and ₹12,123.81 crore for Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and coverage of eligible non-SECC beneficiaries. The Cabinet also approved funding for disease-control programmes, sanitation and security at health institutions, and district-level health staff.

The long funding window is intended to provide continuity to services ranging from maternal and child healthcare to hospital treatment and disease surveillance. The practical impact will depend on annual releases, staffing, procurement and the ability of district hospitals and primary health centres to use the sanctioned funds effectively.

The Cabinet also reviewed the monsoon situation. The state was reported to be around 15 per cent below normal rainfall despite heavy showers in several districts in recent days. Officials are expected to continue monitoring district-wise rainfall and its effect on crops and water storage.

Bypass toll, forests and soybean research

In another transport decision, the Cabinet permitted user-fee collection on the 51.963-km Bhopal Bypass until December 31, 2031. The bypass is proposed to be expanded from four to six lanes, and the Public Works Department has been authorised to extend the toll period by another five years if required.

The Cabinet approved ₹918 crore for continuing the forest department’s dividend-distribution scheme for Joint Forest Management Committees until 2030-31. The revised framework is expected to extend benefits beyond forest workers to residents associated with the committees.

Twenty hectares of land at Bhaukhedi village in Sehore district will be provided on permanent lease for an ICAR-linked National Soybean Research Institute initiative. The land is to be used for a Krishi Vigyan Kendra aimed at strengthening soybean research and farmer support in India’s leading soybean-producing state.

Other decisions included an expansion plan for the State Industrial Security Force, tourism training for at least 1,000 homestay operators through a partnership with Tata STRIVE, and higher awards for women recognised for courage and service.

The approvals are substantial, but execution will determine their value. Timely tendering, transparent contracts and public reporting on physical progress will be essential, particularly for the Bhopal–Vidisha road and the multi-year health allocation.
