MP Govt Withdraws Simhastha Land Pooling Act After Talks With Farmers; Kisan Sangh Calls Off Nov 18 Protest

The Madhya Pradesh government on Monday revoked the Simhastha Land Pooling Act in Ujjain, hours ahead of a major agitation planned by the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh. The decision came following direct talks between Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and a delegation of farmers, leading to the withdrawal of the “Dera Dalo, Ghera Dalo” protest scheduled for November 18.

Officials confirmed that the Chief Minister instructed the Urban Administration and Development Department and the Ujjain District Administration to issue formal orders immediately. The move effectively meets all demands put forward by the Kisan Sangh, which had been opposing the Act over concerns related to land rights and acquisition processes.

Earlier in the day, a delegation of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh travelled from Ujjain to Bhopal at the Chief Minister’s invitation. The delegation submitted a detailed demand letter outlining objections to the Act and sought its complete repeal. The meeting at the CM House brought together Kisan Sangh leaders, senior BJP functionaries, Ujjain’s elected representatives and top district officials.

According to participants, the Chief Minister assured that the government does not intend to proceed with any policy that undermines farmers’ ownership or livelihoods. The Kisan Sangh had earlier alleged that provisions of the Land Pooling Act placed disproportionate decision-making power with urban authorities and would negatively impact farmers whose land fell under the Simhastha development area.

With the repeal confirmed, the Kisan Sangh announced the cancellation of Tuesday’s planned statewide protest, calling the government’s decision a “necessary and welcome correction.” Leaders said the organisation would continue to monitor implementation to ensure that farmers face no administrative pressure during future land-related processes.

The development diffuses a potential confrontation in Ujjain, where preparations for Simhastha 2028 have been underway. The government is expected to initiate fresh consultations with stakeholders to frame an alternative approach to land management for the pilgrimage infrastructure.
