A pickup truck plunged into a gorge at Tilswa Ghat in Neemuch, killing three labourers and injuring three others. This is the second crash here in two days.
The vehicle carrying paint buckets plunged into a deep gorge at the notorious Tilswa Ghat in Neemuch; three others seriously injured.
Three labourers were killed on the spot and three others sustained critical injuries after a speeding pickup truck lost control and plunged into a deep gorge at the notorious Tilswa Ghat near the Singoli area late Tuesday night. Local police confirmed the incident took place around 10:00 PM when the vehicle was negotiating a sharp bend on the ghat section.
Initial reports indicate that the pickup truck (bearing registration number RJ14-GN-6549) was en route from Dholpur to Banswara in Rajasthan. The vehicle was loaded with paint buckets, and the labourers were traveling while seated directly on top of the cargo. Following the crash, the driver fled the spot, and a police hunt is currently underway to track him down.
Tragic Scene at Ghat
The impact of the fall was so severe that the paint buckets burst open upon impact. Rescuers noted a grim scene at the accident site, with the bodies of the deceased completely covered in spilled paint.
Emergency responders and passersby had to struggle through the difficult terrain and dark conditions to pull the victims out of the mangled wreckage of the pickup truck.
Victims Identified by Police
According to officials, the labourers were heading towards a construction site for an Anganwadi building. The victims belonged to different regions, including Bareilly and Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, as well as Jaipur in Rajasthan.
The injured individuals have been identified as Mohammad Zakir (40), Idris, and Sompal. "The injured received primary medical attention at the Singoli hospital, but owing to their critical condition, they have been referred to a specialized facility in Kota for advanced treatment," a senior medical officer stated.
Administrative Action on Ground
Upon receiving information about the tragedy, a team led by Singoli Police Station In-charge Jitendra Verma and Tehsildar Premshankar Patel rushed to the spot with additional forces.
The police administration, with the assistance of local commuters, managed to retrieve the bodies from the deep gorge. The bodies have been shifted to the Singoli hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations. The police have seized the damaged pickup truck and registered a case under relevant sections.
Rising Safety Concerns
This incident marks the second major tragedy at the exact same spot within the last 48 hours. On Sunday, a passenger bus belonging to Shiv Shakti Travels overturned at Tilswa Ghat, leaving nearly 30 passengers injured.
"The frequent accidents at this particular turn have turned the ghat into a virtual death trap," noted a local resident who assisted in the rescue operation.
The recurring nature of these mishaps has sparked major public resentment. Local residents and regular commuters are now demanding immediate intervention from the district administration to install crash barriers, clearer warning signboards, and strict speed-calming measures along the hazardous stretches of the Tilswa Ghat to prevent further loss of life.
