New Rule in Local Body Elections: Candidate Info to Be Public
Bhopal,M.P
In a major electoral reform, candidates in Municipal Corporation, Municipality, and Council elections must now publicly disclose their assets, educational qualifications, and criminal records. This move aims to promote transparency and enable voters to make informed choices.
Like the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, the Election Commission's guidelines will now be applicable in the Madhya Pradesh civic elections. Under the new guidelines, a copy of the affidavit submitted with the nomination will be made public. This system will become effective in the upcoming elections.
It should be noted that elections for all urban bodies will be held in Madhya Pradesh in the year 2027. Now, information about the crimes of councilors will also be made public in the elections. Similarly, information about property and education will also have to be made public. This means that the guidelines of the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections will also be applicable in the civic elections.
This system will be applicable in the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and Nagar Parishad elections. A copy of the affidavit submitted with the nomination will be made public. A copy will be uploaded on the district website along with the State Election Commission.
