NMC Issues New Guidelines: Family Adoption Program Mandatory for Medical Students
Bhopal,M.P
As per the new guidelines by the National Medical Commission, every medical student must now participate in the Family Adoption Program to strengthen community health engagement and practical learning.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently issued several new guidelines related to medical education and practice. In this episode, from the academic session 2026, every medical student will become a part of the Family Adoption Program. Under this, every student will have to adopt at least one family, whose entire health care will be the responsibility of that student. Every medical college will adopt two villages. MBBS students will treat the villagers by staying directly among them for 78 hours. During studies, MBBS students will also do awareness and service work.
NMC has issued new guidelines for the session 2025-2026 for the evaluation of medical colleges. The commission has said that some medical institutions have been acting arbitrarily for a long time. Fake patients are admitted at the time of inspection. Despite this, they are admitted to the ward and added to the number of patients on the document. NMC said that action can be taken against this fraud under the Establishment, Assessment and Rating Exchange of Medical Institutions 2023 Act. NMC Secretary Dr. B Srinivas said in an order issued for medical colleges that the process of granting recognition to new institutions will continue till January 4, 2025.
