Sub-Inspector Jailed in Aatmaram Pardi Case Booked Again: Guna Cop Falsely Declared Woman Dead, Closed Husband’s Death as Suicide

A decade-old case from Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district has resurfaced, exposing a shocking act of police misconduct. Dismissed Sub-Inspector Ramveer Singh Kushwah, already in jail for his role in the Aatmaram Pardi murder case, has been booked again—this time for falsifying records and mishandling a 2015 death case.

Investigations revealed that Kushwah had falsely declared a living woman dead and then closed her husband’s mysterious death as suicide. The case, which began at the Ruthiyai police outpost, was reopened after a petition was filed in court.

Woman Declared Dead Was Alive

In 2015, truck driver Makhan Kushwah died under suspicious circumstances. Then-station in-charge Ramveer Kushwah claimed that Makhan had committed suicide due to grief over his wife Usha Bai’s “death”—a claim later proven false when it emerged that Usha Bai was very much alive.

The deception came to light only after Makhan’s father approached the High Court, prompting a fresh probe.

Dismissed SI Arrested Again

On October 28, Dharnawada police arrested Ramveer Kushwah from Chanchoda Sub-Jail, where he was already lodged. He has now been booked under charges of abetment of suicide and criminal negligence.

Police sources confirmed that Kushwah faces six other criminal cases, including one involving a fraudulent car purchase linked to the Aatmaram Pardi case. Once a fugitive, he had a ₹1 lakh reward on his arrest.

How the Case Unfolded

On June 21, 2015, police received information about a man admitted to Guna District Hospital with severe burn injuries. The deceased was later identified as truck driver Makhan Kushwah of Parasmani Transport Company.

According to police, Makhan allegedly set himself on fire using diesel after his wife’s death. However, his family disputed the claim. His brother, Raman, found that the truck’s fuel tank was locked, making suicide by diesel impossible. Despite this, SI Ramveer fabricated a false report declaring suicide—approved by the SDM without proper verification.

In reality, Makhan’s wife remarried five years later, confirming she had been alive all along.

Father’s Fight for Justice

Makhan’s father, Gopal Kushwah, from Lalitpur (U.P.), persistently pursued justice. After years of ignored complaints, he moved the High Court, which ordered a reinvestigation. Then-SP Rahul Kumar Lodha’s probe found Ramveer’s report to be fake and fabricated.

Despite this, the case was again buried, allegedly due to Ramveer’s influence. In 2021, another report falsely pinned blame on a deceased constable, Harimohan Singh Parihar, clearing Ramveer. But Gopal refused to give up.

Fresh Probe in 2023

Following repeated appeals, Police Headquarters reopened the investigation in January 2023. Even then, the local SDOP delayed proceedings. Around that time, Ramveer secured anticipatory bail in another murder case and even posted celebratory videos online, taunting authorities.

This prompted a fresh crackdown, culminating in his latest arrest.

Reinvestigation Findings

The new probe revealed that Makhan had left Gwalior for Dewas on June 18, 2015, but was later found dead three days later. Witnesses confirmed his truck was illegally detained at the Ruthiyai outpost, where police allegedly extorted money from him.

When he resisted, officers beat him and fabricated a suicide story to cover up the crime. They even used another driver, Hardas, to mislead the family.

Unanswered Questions

  • How was Makhan’s body identified when initial hospital records marked it “unknown”?

  • Why did the police fabricate a story about his wife’s death?

  • Why was no forensic or technical evidence—like CCTV, photos, or call data—collected?

Only a diesel-scented bottle was seized as evidence.

Official Statement

Raghogarh SDOP Deepa Dodwe confirmed that dismissed SI Ramveer Kushwah has been re-arrested for abetment of suicide and negligence. She said the investigation is ongoing, and more names may be added as new evidence surfaces.

Kushwah was produced in court under tight security and sent back to judicial custody.
