Temple in MP Where Devotees Offer Shoes After Wishes Fulfilled
Bhopal,M.P
In Madhya Pradesh, the Sanwariya Mata Temple (also known as Sanwaria Seth Temple) holds a unique tradition where devotees offer shoes or slippers once their wishes are granted. Rooted in local belief, it's said that the Goddess fulfills the desires of her true devotees, and in return, they express gratitude by offering footwear—a symbol of humility and devotion.
In the Kolar region of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, lies a unique temple where shoes and slippers are offered to Goddess Durga. This temple is built on the Kolar hill and is known as Jiji Bai Shakti Peeth. During Navratri, a large number of devotees visit the temple to offer their prayers and express their wishes to the Goddess. Significantly, Goddess Durga is worshipped in the form of a little girl.
Devotees also offer purses and watches along with shoes and slippers.
According to the temple priest, Om Prakash Maharaj, devotees offer items such as shoes, slippers, purses, and watches to the Goddess upon the fulfillment of their wishes. When a devotee comes to the Goddess's court with a wish, they can offer any offering. Upon their wishes being fulfilled, devotees offer these special items to the Goddess. The priest explained that before the temple's establishment, a marriage ceremony was performed for Goddess Parvati, in which he himself gave her away in marriage. This is why devotees worship the Goddess as their own daughter.
Devotees come from all over the country and abroad.
People come to visit Jiji Bai Shakti Peeth not only from India but also from abroad. Various religious events are held at the temple throughout the year. The Mother Goddess is dressed in new clothes every day. Another unique feature of the temple is that devotees must climb approximately 300 stairs to have darshan of the Mother Goddess.
