Tenant Murders Landlord in Pithampur, Slits Throat and Throws Body from Second Floor

Victim was engaged and set to marry in four months; police launch manhunt for absconding accused

A shocking murder case has come to light from Pithampur, where a tenant allegedly killed his landlord by slitting his throat and throwing him from the second floor of a residential building. The incident occurred late Wednesday night within the jurisdiction of Sector-1 police station, sending shockwaves through the locality.

According to police, the victim, Akshay Phulware (23), was attacked following a dispute with his tenant, Anil Vishwakarma (33), who lived in a rented room in the same house. Akshay’s younger brother witnessed the assault and attempted to intervene, leading to a brief scuffle with the accused. However, the tenant managed to flee the spot after committing the crime.

What happened on the night of the incident
The incident took place around 11 pm at a three-storey house near Hotel Paradise on Mhow–Neemuch Road. Akshay, who ran a grocery store on the ground floor of the building, lived there with his parents, siblings, and extended family. The accused, a factory worker originally from Satna, had been residing alone on the second floor as a tenant.

Police sources said a heated argument broke out between the landlord and the tenant late in the night. During the confrontation, Anil allegedly attacked Akshay with a knife, slitting his throat. He then threw the severely injured Akshay from the second-floor gallery to the ground below.

Akshay was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Evidence from the crime scene
Upon receiving information, police teams reached the spot and found extensive bloodstains, indicating a violent struggle. The knife used in the crime was also recovered from the scene. Station House Officer Om Prakash Ahir confirmed that multiple sections, including murder, have been invoked in the case.

Victim’s family and background
Akshay Phulware was the eldest son of Bag Singh Phulware and was well-known in the area for running his grocery business. He lived with his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. He had recently been engaged, and his wedding was scheduled for April 2026. Preparations for the ceremony were already underway, with plans to also hold his younger sister’s wedding around the same time.

The sudden loss has left the family devastated. Relatives said there had been no prior dispute between Akshay and the tenant. “They appeared to share a normal relationship. Anil would often sit at Akshay’s shop and talk to him,” family members said.

Sequence leading to the murder
According to the family, around 10 pm Akshay had closed his shop and was speaking on the phone with his brother-in-law. Shortly afterward, he went up to the second floor, where the tenant lived. It was during this time that the fatal attack allegedly took place. The rest of the family was on the third floor and rushed down after hearing commotion.

Investigation underway
Police have launched a search operation to trace the accused, who has been absconding since the incident. Multiple teams have been deployed, and investigators are probing the motive behind the killing. “The accused will be arrested soon. We are examining all angles, including personal and financial disputes,” said SHO Om Prakash Ahir.

The incident has raised serious concerns over safety in residential rental arrangements and has deeply shaken the Pithampur community.
