In a heartbreaking incident, 10-year-old Riya Rajak from Kolar's Rajharsh Colony lost her life after being struck by a bullet while playing near a religious tableau. Initially dismissed as an accident, an X-ray report has confirmed the fatal injury, sparking a murder investigation against unidentified assailants.
According to Kolar police station TI Sanjay Singh Soni, the bullet entered Riya's body between her shoulder and neck from an elevated angle, lodging near her waist. On Friday, authorities recreated the scene with forensic experts to gather evidence. The post-mortem examination has been completed, and the body was handed over to her grieving family for final rites. Once the full report arrives, an FIR for murder will be filed.
Riya's father, Sunil Rajak, a local water supplier, lives with his wife and three children. Eyewitnesses described the chaos: Riya suddenly collapsed while playing with friends on Thursday afternoon, with blood pouring from her wound. She was rushed to JK Hospital but succumbed to excessive bleeding within two hours.
Her uncle, Raj Rajak, recounted, "We were preparing at the pandal when Riya fainted, bleeding heavily from her shoulder. We arranged blood, but she couldn't be saved." He emphasized the family has no known enemies and suspects an errant shot from celebratory firing during religious rituals.
Neighbor Sarla Dhuria noted Riya had a minor electric shock earlier that morning but seemed fine before heading to the pandal. Another witness mentioned a pigeon falling simultaneously, hinting at a projectile from above.
Senior police officials are focusing on festive gun discharges, common after weapon worship ceremonies. They are interrogating licensed gun owners in the area and reviewing CCTV footage for clues. "Strict action will be taken to ensure justice for this innocent child," assured a police spokesperson.
This tragedy highlights the dangers of celebratory firing, a practice often linked to accidental deaths in India. Authorities urge stricter regulations to prevent such senseless losses. The community mourns Riya, demanding swift accountability.
