Ujjain Collector’s Rural School Visit Highlights Children’s Dependence on Education for Nutrition, Safety and Dreams

Ujjain Collector Roshan Kumar Singh on Friday carried out a surprise inspection of rural areas in Gangedi and Raghopiplya villages, where interactions with students at a government school underscored the critical role schools play beyond academics in children’s daily lives.

During his visit to the Government School in Gangedi, the Collector engaged directly with students, teachers and villagers. Children appealed to him not to close the school, telling the district administration head that they felt lonely at home when classes were suspended due to cold weather. “We don’t feel good at home. In school we get food, we can play with our friends and study,” students told the Collector.

The interaction revealed how schools serve as centres of nutrition, social interaction and emotional security for children in rural areas. Officials present said the Collector took note of the concerns and assured students that their education and well-being remain a priority for the administration.

Collector Singh encouraged the students to think about their future and spoke to them about the importance of education in achieving their goals. When asked about their aspirations, children spoke confidently about wanting to join the Army, become doctors, engineers, police officers, scientists and even Olympic athletes. One girl told the Collector that her dream was to become a police officer, drawing praise and encouragement from officials present.

District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Shreyans Kumar, along with local sarpanches and rural officials from Gangedi and Raghopiplya, accompanied the Collector during the inspection. Officials reviewed classroom conditions, attendance and basic facilities at the school.

Beyond education, the Collector also assessed the implementation of key government schemes in the villages. In Gangedi, he spoke with resident Sampat Bai Parmanand to review the availability of tap water under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Officials also gathered feedback on the Ladli Bahna scheme, fertilizer availability for farmers and the status of electricity supply in the area.

Residents raised local issues during the interaction, and officials were directed to address gaps in service delivery. The Collector stressed the need for regular monitoring to ensure that welfare schemes reach intended beneficiaries without delays.

The visit highlighted the administration’s focus on grassroots governance and direct engagement with citizens. Officials said such inspections help identify on-ground challenges, especially in education and basic services, which have a direct impact on quality of life in rural areas.

The district administration said similar surprise inspections will continue as part of efforts to strengthen service delivery, improve school infrastructure and ensure that children in rural Ujjain have access to a supportive learning environment.
