Daughter Witnessed Brutal Knife Attack

A man accused of stabbing his wife to death in front of their teenage daughter allegedly died by suicide on Thursday night, ending a 17-day-long manhunt. Police found the body of the accused, Deepak Mishra, in Pithampur, Dhar district, early on Friday morning.

The development comes nearly two and a half weeks after the primary incident shook the Sagar locality. According to officials, Mishra had been evading arrest since April 7. Local police were alerted about a suspicious body, later identified as the absconding accused. No suicide note has been recovered from the spot yet.

Attack Happened Before Holi

The gruesome attack took place on the night of April 7. Officials said Mishra, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, attacked his wife, Shikha Mishra, with a kitchen knife. He inflicted multiple blows on her stomach and neck. The couple’s elder daughter, Disha, was present in the house and witnessed the assault on her mother.

Victim Died During Treatment

Shikha was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in a critical condition. However, doctors could not save her. She succumbed to her injuries during treatment. The police registered a case of murder and launched a search for the husband, who had fled the spot immediately after the crime.

Affair, Instagram Led To Fights

According to officials familiar with the matter, a pattern of intense domestic friction had emerged. The Additional Superintendent of Police, Udit Mishra, told reporters that the wife’s family alleged the accused was involved in an extramarital relationship. “The couple used to quarrel frequently over this issue. The accused was also upset over his wife using Instagram actively. It became a recurring flashpoint,” an officer stated.

Police Probe Both Angles

Investigators are now verifying call records and social media activity. Preliminary findings suggest that a combination of the alleged affair and arguments over social media usage created a volatile atmosphere at home. The police have recorded statements from family members and neighbours. Authorities have not ruled out examining the minor daughter’s testimony about the night of the attack.

Autopsy Underway, Case Continues

The body of the accused has been sent for post-mortem examination. While the primary accused is dead, the police told this English news portal India that they will submit a final closure report before the court after completing all procedural formalities. Officials confirmed that no other family member has been named as an accomplice so far.

Authorities have urged citizens to report any history of domestic violence to local police stations. Counselling resources for families under stress are also being suggested by district social welfare bodies. Further updates are awaited as the forensic report comes in.
