Youth Shot Dead During Birthday Celebration in Bhopal: Six Rounds Fired, ₹30,000 Reward Announced for Accused
Bhopal, MP
A 22-year-old youth was shot dead in Bhopal during a late-night birthday celebration after six assailants opened fire on a public street. The victim, identified as Amit Verma, was hit by two bullets—one in the head and another in the abdomen—resulting in his death on the spot.
The incident took place around midnight on Saturday in Leeladhar Colony under Chhola Mandir police station limits. The attackers, who arrived on two motorcycles, were allegedly targeting another individual, Raja Khatik, but ended up killing Amit, who was standing beside him.
The main accused is Naseem “Banne” Khan, a history-sheeter known to claim association with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Following the incident, panic spread across the locality, and videos of the assailants brandishing weapons on VIP Road later went viral on social media.
CM Announces Reward, Hunt Intensifies
Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra has announced a ₹30,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the culprits. Five teams, including units from Crime Branch and Zone 4, have been deployed to track down the attackers.
A large police force was deployed at Hamidia Hospital during Amit’s post-mortem, underscoring the seriousness of the case and the tension in the area.
A Birthday Celebration Turns Fatal
Amit, who worked at a garment store, had gone to celebrate his friend Ashu Khatik’s birthday. After cake-cutting, the group was casually conversing on the roadside when two motorcycles carrying six men stormed the scene and opened fire. According to Amit’s brother, Atul Verma, the attackers fired at least six rounds before fleeing while waving pistols in the air.
Initial investigation suggests that the bullets were meant for Raja Khatik, a known offender who was part of the group. The altercation stems from a past dispute over the division of loot money between Raja and Naseem’s associates.
A Chain of Criminal Ties
Police revealed that Raja Khatik is involved in multiple robbery cases and is the elder brother of Ashu, who filed the FIR. One of Naseem’s close aides, Wasim, had a brother named Nadeem, who previously carried out robberies alongside Raja. A falling-out over money led to a physical altercation, triggering this act of revenge.
On Saturday night, Wasim, Nadeem, and others reached Raja's house, where the firing occurred. In the chaos, Amit was fatally shot, while Raja remained unharmed.
Repeat Offender with Violent Past
Naseem Khan, originally from Shajapur, has a long criminal record with 46 cases including murder, attempted murder, extortion, robbery, and assault. In 2023, he made headlines after opening fire on tent house operator Nawaz Riaz inside his shop in Bhopal’s Budhwara area. Naseem had also threatened a police officer in a viral reel during a prior investigation.
He was eventually arrested after a short encounter where he was shot in the leg while trying to flee. Known for flaunting pistols and weapons on social media, Naseem has previously escaped from police custody and remains a high-risk fugitive.
