Gurugram Police Constable suspended for alleged stalking of Influencer Shivangi Peshwani

A constable from the Gurugram Police has been suspended following allegations of stalking and harassment against social media influencer Shivangi Peshwani, who claims the officer extracted her personal details from her car’s number plate and Instagram profile before sending unsolicited messages.

According to Peshwani, on the night of September 21, around 12:30 AM, a PCR patrol vehicle tailed her car from RD City, Sector 45. Fifteen minutes after she reached home, a comment appeared on one of her Instagram reels from a fake account named Simran Chopra, reading, “Ma’am, aren’t you the one who came to RD Colony 15 minutes ago?” When Peshwani inquired about the commenter’s identity, the account replied, “The Police’s eyes are very sharp. Talk in messages.” The constable reportedly admitted to retrieving her address from the car registration and locating her social media details online.

Peshwani filed a formal complaint at the Cyber Police Station East on September 23, submitting screenshots as evidence. Despite her allegations, she alleges that the Station House Officer initially downplayed the incident, suggesting the constable “just wanted to be friends” and advising her to block him if she was uncomfortable. Undeterred, Peshwani maintained her stance, leading to the registration of an FIR on September 24. A police spokesperson, Sandeep Kumar, confirmed the FIR and suspension, assuring that “no accused will be protected.”

In a three-minute Instagram video following the FIR, Peshwani questioned how a PCR officer appointed for public safety could misuse sensitive data to harass a citizen. “I’m nearly 50 years old,” she stated. “If this can happen to me, what about younger women?” She vowed to pursue legal action until the constable faces consequences.

This incident has ignited debates on data privacy, police accountability, and the protection of public figures online. Civil rights advocates emphasize the need for stricter protocols governing law enforcement access to personal information and harsher penalties for officials who abuse their authority. As the investigation continues, Gurugram Police have pledged transparency and swift action to restore public trust.
