Tamil actor Abhinay, best known for his performance in the 2002 coming-of-age film Thulluvadho Ilamai, passed away on Monday at the age of 44 following a prolonged battle with liver disease. The actor had been under medical care for several months and had publicly sought financial help for his treatment.
Abhinay’s body is currently kept at his residence in Chennai. With no immediate family members to perform his last rites, representatives from the Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Artistes’ Association) have stepped in to oversee the funeral arrangements.
Before his death, Abhinay had candidly spoken about his deteriorating health in a video message that went viral earlier this year. “I do not know if I will be around for longer,” he had said, revealing that doctors had given him an estimated year and a half to live. His emotional appeal drew support from members of the Tamil film fraternity and fans alike.
Abhinay made his debut in Thulluvadho Ilamai, a film that also introduced actor Dhanush to Tamil cinema. Over the years, he appeared in more than 15 films across Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada languages, and worked in television commercials and dubbing projects. Notably, he lent his voice to actor Vidyut Jammwal in the 2012 Tamil hit Thuppakki, directed by AR Murugadoss.
As his health declined, Abhinay reached out to the industry for assistance, with comedian KPY Bala among those who extended financial support. His passing has sparked conversations about the challenges faced by struggling artists in the entertainment industry.
Abhinay is remembered as a talented and humble performer whose dedication to his craft endured despite personal and financial hardships. His death marks a somber moment for Tamil cinema.
