Amrita Online Expands Presence to 50+ Countries, Hosts Future Skills Conclave to Tackle Employability Gap

Amrita Online, the digital learning arm of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, has expanded its global reach to learners in more than 50 countries while covering all 28 states of India, reinforcing its push to make quality higher education accessible beyond geographical boundaries. The milestone was marked with the Amrita Online Future Skills Conclave, a thought leadership initiative focused on addressing the widening gap between academic learning and industry expectations.

The conclave brought together industry leaders, academic experts and education practitioners to examine how rapid technological change, evolving job roles and new workplace models are reshaping employability requirements. Discussions centred on the growing demand for graduates who combine technical expertise with adaptability, critical thinking and communication skills.

Highlighting the institution’s academic direction, Dr. Krishnashree Achuthan, Dean of PG Programs, said Amrita Online’s comprehensive curricula, diverse specialisations and innovative delivery models have positioned it among leading global online education providers. She noted that the conclave reaffirmed the university’s commitment to aligning learning outcomes with fast-changing industry needs.

The initiative also drew on the broader educational vision of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, rooted in the belief of its Chancellor, Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), that quality education should not be limited by geography. With experienced faculty often concentrated in urban centres and many regions facing shortages, the university has leveraged technology-led platforms such as Amrita Online, A-VIEW, OLabs and virtual laboratories to deliver scalable, multilingual education. These platforms have reached lakhs of learners in India and overseas, including parts of Africa and South America.

Registrar Dr. P. Ajith Kumar said the primary responsibility of academia has shifted from knowledge delivery to the continuous transformation of students to remain relevant in a rapidly advancing industrial landscape. He added that closer collaboration between academia and industry is essential to ensure graduates are prepared for emerging technologies and future roles.

The conclave featured panel discussions, experience-sharing sessions and interactive engagements that provided students with direct exposure to emerging skill demands across sectors. Closed-door deliberations by Amrita Online’s Knowledge Committee focused on curriculum enrichment and future workforce alignment, underscoring the institution’s emphasis on continuous academic innovation.

Education leaders at the event stressed that employability in the coming decade will depend not only on degrees but on skill clarity, practical application and lifelong upskilling. As India’s digital education ecosystem evolves, initiatives such as the Future Skills Conclave signal the growing role of online universities in building a globally competitive, inclusive and future-ready workforce.
