From PIMS to Public Health: How Prathima Foundation’s Programmes Expanded Across Telangana

Prathima Foundation, the social welfare arm associated with Prathima Group, has developed a programme portfolio that extends across healthcare, education, women’s empowerment, livelihoods and rural outreach in Telangana.

The Foundation was graced by presence of former President of India Pranab Mukherjee in 2015 at Hyderabad.

Dr. Harini Boinipally, Executive Director of Prathima Group, is associated with the Foundation as a founder-member. She has been described by the Foundation as a doctor by profession and a social worker by choice, with a role in conceptualising development initiatives for underserved communities.

The Foundation’s healthcare work has included free cardiac surgeries for 114 underprivileged children between the ages of zero and 14. These surgeries were performed with support from a team of doctors from London. The Foundation has also supported treatment access for patients with sickle cell anaemia, thalassemia and other blood-related disorders through facilities linked to Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences, or PIMS.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Foundation deployed mobile health units that delivered healthcare services to around 36,000 rural residents. It also distributed one crore masks across Telangana, according to earlier media coverage. Ambulance support has formed another part of its health access work, with 11 ambulances provided free of cost to remote villages.

A major long-running programme is the Mother and Child initiative. According to details shared by the organisation, the programme has been running since 2001 and offers pre-to-post natal care at a subsidised cost of ₹2,000. The programme has supported more than 30,000 deliveries in Telangana.

The Foundation’s work in women’s empowerment includes sanitary pad distribution drives, installation of sanitary pad disposal machines in girls’ schools and livelihood support for single and destitute women. Earlier media coverage has recorded the distribution of 500 sewing machines to women for livelihood development.

Education and skill development form another part of the Foundation’s community work. Three vocational skill development centres have been established at Nagaram, Raikal and Ammakkapeta. Earlier coverage reported that these centres trained 4,150 youth, with 4,120 securing employment. The Prathima Study Hall, initially launched in 2018, has supported government job aspirants and has helped around 300 students secure positions in group services, police and banking.

The Foundation has also contributed to school infrastructure. Under Telangana’s Mana OoruMana Badi initiative, it constructed a school building at Veernapalli mandal headquarters in Rajanna Sircilla district at a cost of ₹7.50 crore. It has also provided 32 electric pottery wheels to traditional potters and extended financial assistance to students for higher education.

The Foundation's community work draws its strength from the wider institutional presence that Prathima Group has steadily built across Telangana. The Group today operates across healthcare, medical education, infrastructure, telecommunications, manufacturing, aviation, hospitality and renewable energy. Its healthcare network has expanded to 2,500 beds, reflecting decades of sustained investment in the region's medical landscape. PIMS, which was established in 2001 with 150 MBBS seats, has since grown into a well-regarded medical institution now operating with 400 seats, underscoring the Group's continued commitment to advancing healthcare education in the state.
