The Indian Army has invited online applications for the 68th Short Service Commission (Technical) Course commencing in April 2027, offering engineering graduates an opportunity to join the armed forces as commissioned officers.
The online registration process began on July 9, 2026, and eligible candidates can submit their applications through the official Indian Army recruitment portal until August 7, 2026. The recruitment is open to both unmarried male and female engineering graduates, with separate notifications issued for the SSC (Tech) Men and SSC Women (Tech) entries.
According to the official notification, the recruitment drive includes 381 vacancies, comprising 350 posts for SSC (Tech) Men, 31 posts for SSCW (Tech) Women, along with vacancies reserved for the widows of defence personnel who died in harness. The course is scheduled to begin at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, in April 2027.
Candidates who have completed a Bachelor's degree in Engineering in the notified disciplines from a recognised university are eligible to apply. Final-year engineering students may also submit applications, provided they are able to produce proof of passing the degree examination before the date specified in the notification.
The prescribed age limit for applicants is 20 to 27 years as on April 1, 2027. Candidates must have been born between April 2, 2000, and April 1, 2007 (both dates inclusive). Age conditions and eligibility requirements are detailed in the official recruitment notification.
Unlike many other competitive recruitments, no written examination will be conducted for this entry. The Indian Army will shortlist candidates based on their engineering marks and other eligibility criteria. Shortlisted applicants will then be called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview, followed by a medical examination. Final selection will be based on merit prepared after the SSB process and medical fitness.
Candidates selected through the recruitment process will be granted a Short Service Commission and undergo 49 weeks of pre-commission training at the Officers Training Academy, Chennai. On successful completion of training, they will be commissioned in the rank of Lieutenant in the Indian Army.
As per the notification, officers commissioned through the SSC (Technical) entry will receive Pay Level-10 under the Seventh Central Pay Commission, with a starting basic pay of ₹56,100 per month, in addition to Military Service Pay (MSP), Dearness Allowance (DA) and other admissible allowances.
Applicants have been advised to fill in their personal, educational and engineering stream details carefully while completing the online application. The Indian Army has cautioned that any mismatch between the engineering discipline mentioned in the application and the degree certificate may result in cancellation of candidature. Candidates should also ensure that all supporting documents and personal details are consistent with their official records.
The SSC (Technical) entry remains one of the most sought-after officer recruitment routes for engineering graduates, as it offers an opportunity to serve as a commissioned officer without appearing for a written examination. Interested candidates are encouraged to complete the application process before the closing date and regularly check the official recruitment portal for updates regarding SSB interviews and further stages of selection.
