IAS Officer Anup Garg Gets Cadre Transfer to Jharkhand to Reunite With Wife, IPS Officer Sakshi Jamuar

Anup Garg, a 2022-batch IAS officer, secured All India Rank 269 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2021 and was allotted the Kerala cadre. During his tenure there, he held several notable field postings — starting as Assistant Collector in Kannur, then moving up to Sub Collector in Idukki from August 2024, before being elevated to Sub Collector Grade-I. He went on to serve as District Development Commissioner and Special Officer for the Idukki Package, a role he's held since April 2026. He was also recognised for launching "With People," a citizen-focused governance initiative aimed at making public service delivery more accessible for ordinary residents.
His wife, Sakshi Jamuar, is an IPS officer and a topper from the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023, having secured All India Rank 89. Born and raised in Jharkhand — her father a District Collector in the state — she completed her law graduation at the National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi, before going on to clear the civil services exam. She had listed Jharkhand as part of her cadre preference, driven by a long-standing interest in working directly with underserved communities, an interest she's carried into hobbies like travelling to villages to understand local issues firsthand and spreading legal awareness among self-help groups.
With their marriage now official, Garg's request for an inter-cadre transfer to Jharkhand has been approved, allowing the couple to serve in the same state going forward. The policy enabling this — a long-standing Central Government provision allowing All India Service officers to request a cadre change after marrying an officer from a different cadre — is used by a number of officers each year specifically to avoid spending years of their careers posted in different states from their spouse.
Garg's move to Jharkhand marks the beginning of a new posting cycle for him, away from the Idukki Package role he'd held since earlier this year, as he transitions into whatever assignment Jharkhand's administration allocates him next.
