UGC-NET June 2026: NTA Re-Exam For 3 Subjects On Sept 9-10

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared the UGC-NET June 2026 results for 84 subjects, while announcing a fresh examination for candidates who appeared for the English, Commerce and Sociology papers.

The re-examination will be conducted on September 9 and 10, 2026, following an expert committee's findings that the three question papers contained multiple factual, typographical, translation and other errors. The original UGC-NET June 2026 examination was conducted from June 22 to 30 across 87 subjects.

Candidates who appeared for the remaining 84 subjects can now check their scores and subject-wise cut-offs through the official UGC-NET portal.

Re-Exam Dates Announced

NTA has released a subject-wise schedule for the three affected papers.

NTA said the examination city, centre details and admit cards for the re-conduct will be notified separately through its official website.

Importantly, candidates will not have to pay an additional examination fee for the re-test.

Why NTA Ordered Retest

The decision followed several complaints concerning the English, Commerce and Sociology question papers.

NTA constituted an expert committee to examine the reported problems. According to the agency, the committee identified factual, typographical and translation errors in the three papers.

The problems reportedly included misspelled names of prominent scholars, incorrect or garbled book titles, errors in question wording, grammatical mistakes, punctuation issues and non-standard terms for established concepts.

The committee also identified the repetition of a significant number of questions that had appeared in earlier examinations.

NTA said defects of this extent could not be adequately addressed simply by dropping questions during the answer-key challenge process.

The agency therefore accepted the committee's recommendation to conduct the three papers again to ensure a fair and error-free examination process.

The decision means candidates in the three subjects will have a separate result process, while candidates from the other 84 subjects will not have to wait for the retest.

Results For 84 Subjects

The NTA has now declared results for the 84 subjects for which the answer-key challenge process was completed.

Candidates can access their individual scorecards through the UGC-NET portal. The agency has also published subject-wise category cut-offs along with the result-related information.

The UGC-NET examination determines eligibility for categories including Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor and PhD admission, depending on the applicable qualification category and prescribed conditions.

JRF Certificates Not Delayed

NTA has clarified that the re-examination of English, Commerce and Sociology will not delay the allocation of JRF seats or issuance of e-certificates for candidates in the other 84 subjects.

This allows the result and certification process for successful candidates in the 84 subjects to proceed separately while the three affected papers are conducted again.

For the three retested subjects, JRF, Assistant Professor and PhD-admission eligibility will be determined after the fresh examination in accordance with the UGC-NET rules.

Assistant Professor Eligibility

NTA has also specified a safeguard for the number of candidates qualifying for Assistant Professor eligibility.

The number of candidates qualifying in this category will be based on 6 per cent of candidates who appeared in the June 2026 examination or the retest, whichever is higher.

For English, Commerce and Sociology, the subject-wise allocation of JRF and eligibility categories will be carried out according to the UGC-NET Information Bulletin.

NTA has further stated that the numbers already allocated for each subject will not be reduced after the re-examination.

Candidates appearing for English, Commerce and Sociology should regularly check the official UGC-NET website for their exam city, centre and admit-card information.

Those who have already received results for the 84 subjects should download and preserve their scorecards and check the applicable subject-wise cut-off.

NTA has advised candidates to rely only on official communications and websites for examination-related information.

The immediate priority for English, Commerce and Sociology candidates is the September 9-10 re-examination. Candidates should begin preparing for the fresh papers while waiting for details about their examination city, centre and admit card.
