In the latest round of Russia-Ukraine talks, no discussion took place regarding a peace settlement. However, both sides agreed on a mutual exchange of prisoners, marking a small diplomatic step amid ongoing conflict.
Russian and Ukrainian officials ended the third round of formal talks in Istanbul with an agreement on the exchange of more prisoners but there were no signs of progress on an agreement to stop the war. The Ukrainian delegation said it was ready for a ceasefire but it could not be agreed upon due to Russia's conditions.
The meeting of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations began late Wednesday night as per Indian time in Istanbul city of Turkey and an agreement was reached on the exchange of prisoners of war.
Talks between the two countries for the third time to find a way to an agreement
The Ukrainian delegation said it was ready for a ceasefire but it could not be agreed upon due to Russia's conditions and the talks ended in less than an hour.
Representatives of the two countries had met for the third time in recent months. But Wednesday's meeting between them took place after seven weeks. This meeting took place after US President Donald Trump's threat in which he has talked about imposing more stringent sanctions on Russia in September.
