Mariano Caucino highlighted India’s growing global influence and said Argentina can support New Delhi’s development ambitions through cooperation in mining, energy and trade.

Argentina’s Ambassador to India, Mariano Caucino, has described India as one of the most important countries in the world today, citing its rapidly growing economy, population and expanding global role.

Caucino made the remarks on Saturday while speaking about India-Argentina relations during an Independence Day programme at OP Jindal Global University. He highlighted opportunities for greater strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Highlights India’s Rise

Speaking about India’s position in the changing global order, Caucino said the country has emerged as a key actor, particularly as Asia and the Indo-Pacific gain greater strategic importance.

He pointed to India’s position as the world’s most populous country and its strong economic growth as factors behind the increasing international attention towards New Delhi.

According to the ambassador, countries around the world are paying increasing attention to India as its economic and geopolitical influence continues to expand.

Argentina Offers Support for Viksit Bharat

Caucino said Argentina could contribute to India’s ambition of becoming a fully developed economy by 2047.

He identified mining and energy as two important sectors where the two countries could deepen cooperation. He also highlighted the potential contribution of Argentina and South America more broadly to India’s development objectives.

The ambassador noted that India is working to open and diversify its economy as it pursues its long-term development goals.

Mining and Energy Cooperation

Mining and energy emerged as key areas of potential strategic convergence between India and Argentina.

Caucino said the two countries are well placed to work together in these sectors, suggesting that greater economic engagement could support India’s development ambitions while creating opportunities for Argentina.

The comments come as both countries look to expand bilateral cooperation beyond traditional areas of trade.

Argentina a Major Edible Oil Supplier

The ambassador also highlighted Argentina’s growing importance in India’s edible oil imports.

According to Caucino, Argentina is currently India’s number one supplier of edible oils, underlining the significance of agricultural and food-related trade between the two countries.

He said the relationship reflects the complementarities between India and South American economies.

Bilateral Trade Continues to Grow

Caucino said Argentina has become India’s sixth-largest trading partner, reflecting the expansion of commercial ties between the two countries.

Despite the geographical distance separating India and Argentina, he said both nations are positioned to continue collaborating for mutual benefit.

The remarks underline the growing importance of economic engagement between India and Argentina as both sides explore new areas of cooperation.

Modi’s Argentina Visit Highlighted

The ambassador also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Argentina in July 2025, describing it as a milestone in the 75-year relationship between the two countries.

Caucino’s comments came during India’s 80th Independence Day celebrations and focused on the expanding strategic and economic relationship between New Delhi and Buenos Aires.

With cooperation in areas such as energy, mining and trade gaining importance, the two countries are looking to build on their longstanding diplomatic ties.
