President Trump has extended the deadline for TikTok’s U.S. operations to divest from ByteDance or face a ban; the new deadline is December 16, 2025
President Donald Trump has formally extended the deadline for making the internet media app TikTok available in the US until December 16th. Talks between US and Chinese government officials provided time to finalize the framework agreement announced on Monday. This will be the fourth time Trump has extended the deadline to shut down TikTok, ignoring federal government orders.
Donald Trump had previously given TikTok a deadline of September 17th. A day earlier, he had said he had agreed to a framework agreement with China to keep TikTok operational.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant said after trade talks in Spain that a draft agreement has been reached between China and the US regarding the ownership of the popular internet video platform TikTok. US President Donald Trump and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping will hold talks on Friday to finalize the deal.
