Yunus Govt Action: Sheikh Hasina’s Voting Right Revoked

In a fresh move, the Yunus government has stripped Sheikh Hasina of her right to vote, sparking political controversy.

Ahead of next year's general elections in Bangladesh, the Election Commission has locked former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's National Identification Card (NID). As a result, Hasina and her family members will be unable to vote in the February elections. According to the Election Commission, the NID lock will also prevent people living abroad from voting.

General elections will be held in neighboring Bangladesh in February next year. Preparations for this general election, which will be held after the formation of an interim government in Bangladesh, have already begun. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Election Commission has issued a strange decree.

Indeed, the Bangladesh Election Commission stated that the National Identification Card (NID) of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been locked. Consequently, she will no longer be able to vote in the general elections to be held in February next year. Along with Hasina, the identity cards of her family and close relatives have also been locked.
Sheikh Hasina will not be able to vote in Bangladesh.
In a statement, Bangladesh Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's NID has been locked. He further stated that with her NID locked, she cannot vote while abroad.

These people's NIDs are also locked.
An official with the commission stated that not only Sheikh Hasina, but also the identity cards of her family members and some close associates have been locked. He added that the identity cards of Hasina's younger sister Sheikh Rehana, son Sajeeb Joy, and daughter Wazed Putul have also been locked.

Learn what an NID is?
It is worth noting that in Bangladesh, the National Identity Card (NID) is an identity card that allows people living abroad to exercise their right to vote. The Election Commission Secretary explained that those who have fled abroad to escape justice or for other reasons can also exercise their right to vote. But if their NID is locked then they cannot vote.
