After Tatkal, now there is a change in the rules of general ticket booking, Railways has implemented a new system
Dhanbad
After changes to Tatkal bookings, Indian Railways has now revamped the rules for general ticket booking. The newly implemented system aims to improve passenger convenience and streamline the process.
After making Aadhaar mandatory from July 1 and OTP from July 15 for booking tickets from Tatkal quota, now the Railways has also made a big change in the tickets booked from the general quota. Now only a limited number of waiting list tickets can be booked in all categories from Sleeper to AC.
This system has been implemented from the station where the train is running to the intermediate station. At the station, only 25 percent more waiting list tickets will be issued than the general quota of the train. As soon as 25 percent more waiting list is issued, there will be no room.
Railways has made this change in view of the problems caused by passengers with waiting list tickets boarding in reserved categories in excess of capacity.
A letter related to this was issued to all the zonal railways by Shivendra Shukla, Executive Director, Passenger Marketing, Railway Board. The change also became effective from Monday. This new system of Railways will provide great relief to millions of passengers across the country.
Understand it this way
If any train running or passing through Dhanbad has 20 general quota in sleeper, 10 in third AC and 8 in second AC, then after booking 20 seats of general quota in sleeper, only 5-6 tickets will be issued in waiting list.
After 10 seats of general quota in third AC, only 3 to 4 tickets and only 2 to 3 waiting list tickets will be issued in second AC.
No room started appearing in most trains including Rajdhani, Duronto
As soon as the limit for waiting list tickets was fixed, no room started appearing in most trains. Regret i.e. no room started appearing as soon as 25 percent waiting list tickets were issued after the fixed general quota in sleeper and AC class of long distance trains including Ganga-Sutlej, Dhanbad-Alleppey Express running from Dhanbad as well as Kolkata-Jammutvi Express, Doon Express passing through here.
There is no room in Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani, Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani till the whole of June and in Duronto Express also on different days.
The same arrangement will be applicable in Tatkal tickets as well.
The arrangement of booking up to 25 percent more tickets than the prescribed quota will be applicable on tickets booked from Tatkal quota as well. There will be no compulsion for this in concessional tickets and warrants. This will be effective at small stations along with road side stations.
You can look for an option for the station ahead of the destination, your pocket will be more loose.
If there is no room in sleeper, economy, third AC and second AC till the destination station, you can look for an option till any next station.
For example, in Ganga-Sutlej Express going from Dhanbad to Firozpur Cantt, you can book a ticket till Saharanpur to go from Dhanbad to Bareilly.
The fare per passenger till Bareilly in second AC is Rs. 1840. Rs. 2155 will have to be paid for Saharanpur.
