CBSE approached Delhi Police after repeated cyber attacks targeted its post-result services platform, prompting an investigation by the cyber unit while authorities said no data breach has been detected.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has lodged a formal complaint with Delhi Police after a series of coordinated cyber attacks targeted its Post-Result Services Portal. Acting on the complaint, Delhi Police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and launched an investigation through its cyber unit. According to officials, preliminary findings indicate that there is no evidence of a data breach and the board's systems remain secure.
CBSE said the portal, which was launched on June 2 to provide post-result services including verification and re-evaluation of Class 12 answer scripts, faced repeated attacks over the past three days. The board stated that the disruptions had the potential to affect lakhs of students and create inconvenience during the ongoing post-result process.
According to the board, malicious traffic originated from multiple IP addresses located both within India and abroad. Officials alleged that the objective behind the attacks was to disrupt access for genuine users and attempt unauthorized extraction of information.
Investigation Underway
CBSE submitted its complaint to the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit of Delhi Police, seeking a detailed probe into what it described as coordinated and sophisticated cyber attacks.
Delhi Police subsequently registered an FIR and initiated an investigation. Sources associated with the probe said that no compromise of CBSE databases has been detected so far and that digital evidence is being examined to identify those responsible.
Officials said the cyber unit is analysing the source and nature of the attacks while coordinating with technical experts to establish whether any external entities were involved.
Portal Security Maintained
Despite the attacks, CBSE maintained that its systems and databases remained fully secure. The board stated that there was no indication of any unauthorized access or leakage of student information.
According to CBSE, the attacks were successfully countered through round-the-clock monitoring and response mechanisms. Technical assistance was provided by cybersecurity teams from IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, Digital India Corporation, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), CERT-In and other central government agencies.
The board said these institutions helped mitigate the threats and ensured continuity of essential services for students.
Importance of Post-Result Services
The Post-Result Services Portal plays a key role for students seeking verification of marks and re-evaluation of answer sheets after the declaration of Class 12 board examination results. Any prolonged disruption could affect thousands of candidates awaiting corrections or clarifications.
Officials noted that maintaining uninterrupted access to these services is essential, particularly during the limited application window available to students.
