Major Breakthrough in Red Fort Blast Probe: Dr. Umar Identified as Mastermind
Digital Desk
A major breakthrough has emerged in the investigation of Monday evening’s car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort metro station. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has found concrete evidence linking the blast to the Faridabad terror module, which was also allegedly plotting attacks on prominent religious sites such as Ayodhya and Kashi (Varanasi).
According to official reports, 13 people were killed and more than 20 injured in the explosion.
Faridabad module linked to Delhi blast; 2,900 kg explosives recovered
Investigation agencies have revealed that the recently busted Faridabad module, exposed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police a few days ago, has direct links to the Red Fort explosion. Several doctors associated with this network were arrested, and around 2,900 kilograms of explosive materials were seized from their possession.
Sources said that Dr. Umar Mohammad, a key member of the module, orchestrated the Red Fort blast in panic after security agencies began closing in. His mobile phone and email records also contained location maps of Ayodhya and Kashi, suggesting these sites were being targeted for future attacks.
NIA takes over probe; security tightened across cities
Given the gravity of the incident, the Union Home Ministry has handed over the investigation to the NIA. Police forces from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, along with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), have joined the probe. Security has been heightened in Delhi, Ayodhya, and Varanasi, with Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) deployment increased at major temples and crowded areas.
PM Modi vows strict action
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a visit to Bhutan, expressed deep sorrow over the attack, asserting that “those endangering national security will not be spared.” Upon his return, he will convene an emergency meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review initial investigation reports.
Nationwide search underway
The NIA is conducting raids across Delhi-NCR, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttar Pradesh in search of other suspects linked to the Faridabad module. Officials believe several members of the network remain at large and may be hiding in different parts of the country.
