Malegaon Blast: All 7 Accused Acquitted After 17 Years

 In the 2008 Malegaon blast case, all seven accused including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur have been acquitted after 17 years. Here’s the complete timeline of the case.

The verdict in the 2008 bomb blast case in Malegaon, Maharashtra, came today (31 July). In this case, the special NIA court gave the verdict and acquitted all seven accused.

In fact, while reading the verdict, the judge of the special court said that the prosecution proved that there was a blast in Malegaon, but could not prove that a bomb was placed in that motorcycle. The court has come to the conclusion that the age of the injured was not 101, but 95 years and some medical certificates were tampered with.

Let us inform you that in 2011 this case was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The National Investigation Agency then started investigating the case. The trial was started in 2018 after charges were formally framed against seven accused during the NIA investigation.

Where did the blast take place?

It is worth noting that on the night of September 29, 2008, a massive explosion took place near Bhikku Chowk in Malegaon. Six people were killed in this bomb blast. Along with this, more than 100 people were injured.

The investigation revealed that a bomb attached to a motorcycle exploded near a busy intersection. After this, there was chaos in the entire area. Let us tell you that the Malegaon blast case has been one of the most complex and politically sensitive terrorist cases in recent times.

Many names including former BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya had come to the fore
The Malegaon blast case was initially investigated by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). The case caught fire when people associated with Hindu right-wing groups were arrested during the investigation. During this time, the phrase saffron terrorism came into existence.

Among those arrested in this blast case were BJP veteran and former MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and former army officer Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit. However, today the court has acquitted all the seven accused in this case.
