Mock Drill Amid India-Pakistan Tensions Scheduled Tomorrow

A comprehensive mock drill will be conducted tomorrow, simulating scenarios like air raid warnings, blackouts, and emergency response measures, amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.

New Delhi. The Home Ministry is stepping up preparations with mock drills in 244 categorical districts of the country on May 7, which will test everything from air raid warning sirens to evacuation preparedness and blackout measures. All this is being done as part of India's strategy to take concrete action against Pakistan after the killing of 26 Hindus in the Pahalgam attack.

What is the aim of the mock drill?

  • Operation of air raid warning sirens
  • Operation of hotline, radio communication link with the Indian Air Force
  • Training of citizens, students etc. on civil security aspects to protect themselves in case of hostile attack.
  • Provision of crash blackout measures
  • Provision of timely concealment of critical plants/installations
  • Updating of evacuation plan and its rehearsal

Checking the proactiveness and response of civil defence services including wardens, fire fighting, rescue operations and depot management

Defence Secretary meets PM Modi

Tensions with Pakistan have escalated following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). The Pahalgam terror attack killed 26 people, mostly tourists.

The order to conduct mock drills in classified districts in India came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held high-level meetings to discuss retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack.

On Monday, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met PM Modi and briefed him on India's preparedness amid the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
