President Appoints New Governors for Haryana, Goa and Lieutenant Governor for Ladakh: Kavinder Gupta, Ashim Kumar Ghosh and Ashok Gajapathi Raju Take Oath

In a major administrative reshuffle, the President of India has announced new appointments for the constitutional positions of Governor of Haryana, Governor of Goa, and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. This move is aimed at strengthening governance and ensuring experienced leadership in key regions of the country.

Kavinder Gupta Appointed as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh

Following the resignation of Brigadier (Retd.) Dr. BD Mishra, the Union Territory of Ladakh has got a new Lieutenant Governor in Kavinder Gupta, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Jammu and Kashmir. Gupta had earlier served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir during the PDP-BJP coalition government led by Mehbooba Mufti.

Known for his extensive political experience and grassroots connect, Kavinder Gupta is expected to bring stable and efficient leadership to Ladakh — a region of immense strategic and geopolitical importance. His appointment comes at a time when Ladakh is witnessing accelerated development and increased focus from the central government following its creation as a Union Territory in 2019.

Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh Becomes 19th Governor of Haryana

Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh, an academician and senior BJP leader from West Bengal, has been appointed as the 19th Governor of Haryana, succeeding BandaruDattatreya, who held the post since July 2021.

A resident of Howrah, Ghosh has had a long association with academia, having served as a professor of political science at Kolkata’s Manindra Chandra College. His political journey began under the mentorship of TapanSikdar, a cabinet minister during the tenure of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Ghosh later became the West Bengal BJP President (1999–2002) and played a crucial role in expanding the party’s footprint in the eastern region.

His appointment to Haryana, a politically active state in north India, is viewed as a strategic move to bring intellectual depth and administrative discipline to the Raj Bhavan.

PushpatiAshok Gajapathi Raju Named Governor of Goa

Senior politician and former Union Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju has been appointed the new Governor of Goa, replacing P.S. Sreedharan Pillai. Raju, who has had a long political career in Andhra Pradesh, will now serve as the 19th Governor of Goa.

He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly seven times consecutively from 1978 to 2014 and held several key ministries including Finance, Revenue, Planning, and Legislature Affairs. In 2014, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Vizianagaram and later served as the Union Minister for Civil Aviation in the Modi Cabinet.

In 2018, Raju resigned from his ministerial post alongside other Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders following the central government’s refusal to grant special status to Andhra Pradesh. His appointment to Goa is expected to bring experienced leadership to the coastal state, which plays a vital role in tourism, environment, and regional development.

A Strategic Administrative Move

These appointments reflect the central government’s focus on deploying seasoned and ideologically aligned leaders to key constitutional roles. The newly appointed Governors and Lieutenant Governor are all veterans with significant administrative and political experience.

While Kavinder Gupta is expected to steer Ladakh’s development and security agenda, Ashim Kumar Ghosh will bring intellectual and strategic strength to Haryana. Meanwhile, Ashok Gajapathi Raju’s long experience in both state and central governance is likely to contribute positively to the progress of Goa.

These changes mark a continued effort by the Centre to ensure effective governance and political stability across states and union territories ahead of upcoming elections and national initiatives.
