6 surgical strikes were carried out during UPA rule', Congress retaliated on Tharoor's statement; said - this is not acceptable
After Shashi Tharoor’s remarks, Congress has strongly responded, asserting that six surgical strikes were conducted during the UPA government’s tenure and rejecting any suggestion otherwise, sparking fresh political debate.
The statement of its Lok Sabha member Shashi Tharoor, who is leading the all-party parliamentary delegation on foreign trips after Operation Sindoor, that this was the first cross-border military action against Pakistan, is not acceptable to the Congress.
The party retaliated on Tharoor and said that the UPA government had carried out six cross-border surgical strikes against Pakistan between 2008 and 2014, but refrained from publicizing it in strategic interest.
Congress counted 6 surgical strikes carried out during UPA rule
According to Supriya Srinet, head of Congress Internet Media Department, the UPA government carried out the first cross-border surgical strike against Pakistan on June 19, 2008 in Bhattal sector of Poonch. The army carried out the second military action on August 30-September 1, 2011 in the Kel area across Neelam Valley in Sharda sector. The third action was carried out on January 6, 2013 in the Sawan Patra check post area. The fourth surgical strike was carried out in the Naza Peer sector on July 27-28, 2013. The fifth action was carried out on August 6, 2013 and the sixth surgical strike was carried out on January 14, 2014 and both of these were carried out in the Neelam Valley.
The surgical strike was called a cross border operation
To confirm her claims, Supriya Srinet shared an interview of Colonel Hemanto Pangging, a famous commando of 9-Para Special Forces, in X Post. Quoting him, Srinet said that in 1992 also, in the Coras Border Operation, terrorist camps were destroyed by crossing the border and many terrorists were killed. Then it was called a cross border operation instead of a surgical strike.
The aggression with which Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is referring to the success of Operation Sindoor and the fact that such an operation was carried out for the first time has made the Congress uncomfortable. This is different from the official view of the Congress. The aggressive attitude of the Congress towards Tharoor can also be gauged from the fact that a leader like Udit Raj is being given the freedom to openly attack him.
