Congress Focuses on Ground-Level Heroes
Politics
The Congress party is shifting its strategy to promote only those actively working on the ground, aiming to turn promising individuals into leaders, rather than relying solely on high-profile figures.
The Varanasi Congress Party is now embracing new changes. Instead of worrying about those who leave the party, those who join are welcomed. Leaders like Ramashankar Patel and Akhilesh Pandey from the AAP have joined the Congress party. The party is prioritizing those who work on the ground.
The country's oldest Congress party is moving forward, embracing the new changes while maintaining its heritage. The Congress Committee no longer worries about those who leave the party. Organizational meetings don't even discuss who joined which party.
Yes, those joining the Congress party are certainly being welcomed with open arms. Senior Congress leaders themselves come forward. Two days ago, when former provincial vice president Ramashankar Patel and former metropolitan president Akhilesh Pandey, once a powerhouse of the Aam Aadmi Party, joined the Congress party in Varanasi, the state Congress's national secretary and co-incharge, Rajesh Tiwari, personally came to the party to facilitate their membership.
The Congress believes that anyone joining the party now is not out of greed, but because they understand the party's policies and principles. The Congress Metropolitan and District Committees now seek those who work on the ground. When senior AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal contested the Varanasi parliamentary seat in 2014, Sanjeev Singh was part of the party's core team. After the election, Sanjeev joined the Congress, impressed by Rahul Gandhi.
Recognizing his dedication and activism, the Congress promoted him. He was appointed the state spokesperson of the Congress and the national-level trainer of the committee formed to prevent vote theft. Furthermore, he was also given a ticket for the MLC elections. Councilor Poonam Vishwakarma left the Samajwadi Party (SP) and joined the Congress. Recognizing her work towards strengthening the women's organization, the Congress appointed her as the president of the Metropolitan Women's Congress.
She was also given a ticket for the councilor election, but lost by a narrow margin. Anuradha Yadav, a former state-run Kabaddi player, joined the Congress and, through her hard work, became the president of the District Women's Committee. Numerous individuals from other parties have been given positions and responsibilities in various committees, including booth level positions. However, the Congress has not abandoned its veterans, fielding Anil Srivastava in the mayoral and assembly elections. He is currently the zonal coordinator. Former state president and district president of Seva Dal, Pragyanath Sharma, was appointed coordinator for Prayagraj.
