Gehlot Accuses Rajasthan Government of ‘Loot and Lies’, Criticises Jal Jeevan Mission Implementation

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has alleged widespread corruption in the state government’s implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, claiming that the current administration is running on a platform of “loot and lies.”

Gehlot highlighted the sharp decline in the number of water connections provided under the mission, questioning the government’s efficiency and commitment.

On social media, he stated that the BJP government, which had announced 25 lakh new water connections in the 2024-25 budget, managed to provide only 9.44 lakh connections. He pointed out that this is even lower than the 13.88 lakh connections installed in 2022-23 and 12.17 lakh in 2023-24 during the previous Congress government.

Only 97,000 Connections in Six Months

Gehlot further revealed that for the 2025-26 budget year, 20 lakh tap connections were promised. However, in the first six months, the government has managed to issue just 97,000 connections. At this pace, only about 2 lakh connections are expected to be completed by the end of the year, he claimed, exposing “the BJP’s lies.”

Corruption Alleged in PHED Department

The former CM also accused the Public Health Engineering Department of corruption. He noted that 6 Additional Chief Engineers, 3 Superintending Engineers, and 17 Executive Engineers (XENs) who are responsible for implementing the scheme have been left APO (Absent from Posting), while their preferred officers are given double charges.

Gehlot questioned whether this alleged mismanagement and favoritism are the reasons behind the Jal Jeevan Mission’s failure under the BJP government.
