Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated Saurashtra’s longest flyover, spanning 3.5 kilometers, in Jamnagar on Monday. The flyover, constructed at a cost of ₹226 crore, aims to ease traffic congestion on major routes connecting Rajkot and Khambhaliya.
The inauguration also marked the unveiling of 69 development projects across Jamnagar, collectively worth ₹622 crore. Speaking at the event, CM Patel highlighted the initiatives’ significance for urban infrastructure and regional connectivity. “These projects reflect our commitment to sustainable development and improved urban mobility for Jamnagar residents,” he said.
The flyover, under construction since August 2021, was completed over 51 months. Initially tendered at ₹139 crore, the final cost rose to ₹226.99 crore due to a 39% premium adjustment. Built on 139 pillars, the main four-lane bridge measures 16.5 meters in width, with approaches connecting Indira Marg, Dwarka Road, Sat Rasta Circle, and Subhash Bridge. The total length, including approaches, is 4,225 meters.
Designed to improve traffic flow, the flyover addresses congestion at four key junctions: Sat Rasta Circle, Gurudwara Junction, Narmada Circle, and Nagnath Junction. The infrastructure also provides a new route from Subhash Bridge via Sat Rasta Circle to Lal Bangla Circle, reducing travel time and fuel consumption.
Beneath the flyover, parking facilities have been developed to accommodate 850 two-wheelers, 250 four-wheelers, 100 rickshaws, 100 other vehicles, and 26 buses. Amenities such as pay-and-use toilets, a Labor Facilitation Center, sports areas, food zones, and seating arrangements have also been incorporated.
The bridge’s construction utilized 90,000 cubic meters of cement and 11,000 metric tons of steel. For the inauguration, the flyover was adorned with colorful LED lighting, which will remain on for three days. The Municipal Corporation plans to replicate this illumination during festivals and national celebrations, enhancing the city’s visual appeal.

The project is expected to significantly enhance transportation efficiency, reduce traffic-related delays, and support Jamnagar’s long-term urban development plans.
