Kamal Haasan Takes Oath in Tamil, Wins Applause

Amid the ongoing language debate, actor-politician Kamal Haasan took oath as Rajya Sabha MP in Tamil. His gesture was met with applause across the House, highlighting pride in linguistic identity.

Actor and Makkal Nidhi Mayyam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan took oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha today (July 25). He read the oath in Tamil language.

There is officially an alliance between Kamal Haasan's party and the DMK. It is expected that the DMK and MNM will contest the assembly elections to be held in Tamil Nadu in the year 2026 together.

Haasan filed his nomination papers at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat on June 6, accompanied by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and senior leaders of alliance partners including VCK's Thol Thirumavalavan, MDMK's Vaiko and Tamil Nadu Congress chief Selvaperunthagai.

Makkal Nidhi Mayyam party founder Kamal Haasan had said in a media interview that his party neither supports the ideology of the right wing nor the left. Mayyam means 'center' in Tamil.

He had said that his entry into politics is to serve the people. He has entered politics not as a star but as a common man. Kamal Haasan has described his party as the third option in Tamil Nadu.
