NDA's Landslide Victory in Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: A Decisive Mandate for Continuity

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a resounding triumph in the Bihar Assembly elections, capturing 202 of the 243 seats, as results declared on November 14 confirmed a historic mandate for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's fifth consecutive term.
The BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats, closely followed by ally JD(U) at 85, while Chirag Paswan's LJP(RV) contributed 19. In stark contrast, the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan slumped to just 35 seats, with RJD winning 25 and Congress managing only 6.
The NDA's strategy revolved around unified campaigning under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, emphasising development, women's empowerment, and good governance. Modi addressed multiple rallies, invoking the "double-engine" growth model and contrasting it with the opposition's alleged "jungle raj" past. Key slogans like "Fir ek baar, Nitish Kumar" and warnings against returning to lawlessness resonated widely.
Nitish Kumar focused on welfare schemes, particularly those benefiting women and youth, while Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted infiltration concerns and infrastructure progress. The alliance's disciplined seat-sharing and effective vote transfer among partners proved crucial.
On the opposition side, Tejashwi Yadav, the Mahagathbandhan's CM face, promised massive job creation and positioned the alliance as champions of social justice and youth aspirations. Joint rallies with Rahul Gandhi attacked the NDA on unemployment and migration, but internal coordination issues and fragmented messaging hampered momentum. Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party failed to win any seats despite extensive outreach.
Record turnout of over 67% underscored voter enthusiasm, with women playing a pivotal role in the NDA's sweep. Prime Minister Modi hailed the verdict as a win for "mahila and youth," signaling a rejection of old appeasement politics.
Nitish Kumar was sworn in for a record tenth time on November 20, retaining deputies Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha. The outcome reinforces the NDA's dominance, paving the way for accelerated development initiatives in India's third-most populous state.
