Pankaj Chaudhary was formally confirmed as the new president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Uttar Pradesh unit on Saturday after the deadline for filing nominations closed at 3 pm, sealing his unopposed elevation to one of the party’s most influential organisational posts in the state.
Soon after the confirmation, celebrations broke out at his residence in Gorakhpur, where family members and neighbours gathered to mark the occasion. His mother, Ujjwala Chaudhary, a former district panchayat president from Maharajganj, joined the celebrations, becoming emotional as she spoke about her son’s political journey.
Recalling the family’s roots in public life, Ujjwala Chaudhary said Pankaj was introduced to politics by his elder brother, the late Pradeep Chaudhary, who also served as a district panchayat president. She attributed her son’s rise to his brother’s guidance and blessings. Pradeep Chaudhary passed away after a prolonged illness, but remains a defining influence on Pankaj’s career.
Pankaj Chaudhary belongs to a family with a long-standing association with local governance and social work. His grandfather, Ram Narayan, and father, Bhagwati Prasad, were respected figures in the region. His sister, Sadhana Chaudhary, has served as district panchayat president in Siddharthnagar, while his mother held the post in Maharajganj.
The next generation of the family is also stepping into public life. Pankaj Chaudhary’s son, Rohan Chaudhary, is active in politics, while other family members remain engaged in social work.
Neighbours said preparations are under way for a grand welcome when the newly appointed state president returns home. Local resident Sushil Agrahari said the neighbourhood was in a festive mood, with plans for music and celebrations.
With his appointment now confirmed, Pankaj Chaudhary is expected to play a key role in strengthening the BJP’s organisational structure in Uttar Pradesh ahead of upcoming political challenges.
