Daughters Excel in Studies, Surpass Sons in a Decade

In a remarkable achievement, daughters have outshined sons in academics within the last decade. Their success reflects a significant shift in societal attitudes towards education and gender equality.

The effect of the Beti Padhao-Beti Bachao campaign started ten years ago i.e. in 2015 to educate daughters is now visible in the country. The percentage of daughters passing in the 10th and 12th board examinations has not only increased compared to the total students, but their percentage of passing with good marks has also increased.

Inclination of daughters in subjects like science

Not only this, their inclination towards studying subjects like science has also increased in the last decade. The increased percentage of SC and ST category daughters in these is even more surprising.

A study conducted by the Ministry of Education regarding the results of the 10th and 12th board examinations in the last 11 years has revealed a change.

Under this, while the number of total students appearing in the 12th board examinations in 2024 has increased by 10.60 percent as compared to 2013, the number of girls has increased by 19.8 percent i.e. double in these years.

In this, there has been an increase of 157 percent in the percentage of SC category girls and 251 percent in the percentage of ST category girls.

110 percent increase in the number of girls
Along with this, the trend of studying science has also increased rapidly among girls. While the number of students studying science in 2024 has increased by 68 percent as compared to 2013, the number of girls has increased by 110 percent. The number of SC girls has increased by 142 percent and the number of ST girls has increased by 146 percent.

The performance of daughters in studies was also seen in the 10th board examinations
According to the report, the performance of daughters in studies was also seen in the 10th board examinations. In the 10th board examination, the number of students in 2024 has increased by a total of three percent as compared to 2013, while among girls it was more than nine percent.

The number of SC girls has increased by about 15 percent and the number of ST girls has increased by 81 percent. The increased number of girls passing the 10th and 12th board examinations is being seen as a result of the favorable environment being created for them for the last several years. Be it government or private school, daughters have waved the flag everywhere.

The performance of daughters has been seen everywhere in the board examinations of class 10th and 12th. Be it government schools or private schools. According to the report, in the 2024 board examinations, the passing percentage of sons in government schools was 81.82 percent, while that of daughters was 85.31 percent.

In such private schools, the passing percentage of sons in class 10 was 90.14 percent while that of daughters was 94.6 percent. In the board examinations of class 12, the passing percentage of daughters was higher than that of sons.

The Center will write a letter to the states to increase the seats of science subjects in colleges

In view of the rapidly increasing number of daughters in schools as well as their increasing interest in science subjects, the Ministry of Education will now request all the states to increase the seats of science subjects in their higher education institutions. It will also provide them with the necessary data for this.

On this basis, the states will also be able to identify such areas. Along with this, the Centre will soon write letters to Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Kerala, Manipur, Odisha, Telangana and Bengal which run separate boards for class 10th and 12th. It will suggest them to form a single board instead.
