Bangladesh suffer major setback ahead of Australia series as Shaun Tait resigns as fast bowling coach

Bangladesh cricket team has been dealt a significant blow just days before their upcoming home series against Australia, after fast bowling coach Shaun Tait stepped down from his role before completing his tenure.

Bangladesh are scheduled to host Australia from June 9 for a white-ball series consisting of three ODIs followed by three T20Is. However, the sudden exit of Tait has created an unexpected disruption in the team’s preparations, especially in the fast bowling department, which has shown notable improvement in recent months.

Tait resigns before completing World Cup cycle contract

Shaun Tait had been appointed as Bangladesh’s fast bowling coach with a contract running until the 2027 ODI World Cup cycle. He officially joined the setup in May 2025, and his impact was quickly visible in the development of Bangladesh’s pace attack.

According to reports, Tait has resigned due to personal and family reasons. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that while he was willing to continue his role, he had to make the difficult decision to step down, which the board has respected.

During his tenure, one of the key positives was the rise of young fast bowler Nahid Rana, who emerged as a leading figure in Bangladesh’s pace attack and played an important role in recent performances.

Bangladesh’s recent rise and impact of pace bowling

Bangladesh have shown strong progress over the past year, particularly in home conditions. They recently recorded notable series wins, including victories against Pakistan in both Test and ODI formats, where their fast bowlers played a crucial role.

Tait’s coaching was widely credited for improving the aggression, consistency, and fitness levels of the pace unit, which had traditionally been considered a weaker area for Bangladesh cricket.

BCB likely to announce replacement soon

With the Australia series beginning on June 9, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is expected to announce a replacement fast bowling coach soon. Reports suggest that former Bangladesh fast bowler Talha Jubair is among the leading candidates for the role.

Bangladesh will also play a three-match T20I series against Australia starting June 17, with all matches scheduled to be played in Chattogram.

The sudden coaching change, just before a high-profile series against Australia, adds an extra challenge for Bangladesh as they look to maintain their recent momentum.
