The Election Commission has tightened oversight of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Yashwant Kumar directing officials to conduct fresh verification of all eligible voters who may have been left out of the draft lists. He also made it mandatory to upload verified enumeration forms through the BLO App to ensure accuracy and accountability.
The directions were issued during a review meeting held on Sunday at the Red Cross Auditorium in the Collectorate, attended by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant EROs. The CEO stressed that no eligible citizen should be excluded from the voters’ list and warned that any lapse in verification would invite strict action.
Kumar instructed officials to physically verify all enumeration sheets before uploading them digitally. In cases where a voter’s name is proposed for deletion, he said, supporting documents must be properly preserved to justify the decision. He also emphasised careful scrutiny of cases falling under the ASD category—absent, shifted and deceased voters—strictly in line with Election Commission guidelines.
To maintain transparency, the CEO directed officials to coordinate closely with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of recognised political parties. Lists of uncollected enumeration forms must be shared with BLAs and their signatures obtained, ensuring that the revision process remains open and verifiable at the grassroots level.
Highlighting the sensitivity of the exercise, Kumar said the accuracy of the electoral roll is fundamental to free and fair elections. “The responsibility of ensuring that no eligible voter is left out lies with the administration,” he said, urging officers to approach the task with diligence and neutrality.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has extended the SIR process by seven days and issued a revised schedule. According to the district election office, door-to-door verification will now continue until December 18. The draft electoral roll will be published on December 23.
The period for filing claims and objections has been fixed from December 23 to January 22, 2026, while hearings and verification of claims will take place between December 23, 2025, and February 14, 2026. Officials have been asked to adhere strictly to the revised timeline.
