The results of the recently concluded three-tier Panchayat and urban local body general and by-elections in Chhattisgarh will be announced today. The fate of candidates contesting for 5 urban body chairperson posts, 71 councillor seats, 10 Janpad Panchayat member positions, 34 Sarpanch posts, and 107 Panch positions will start becoming clear as counting progresses.

It is worth noting that vote counting will take place at 13 designated counting centres across the state, where 395 officials and staff members have been deployed to conduct the process smoothly. Excitement among candidates, supporters, and political parties is at its peak as they await the results.

These elections are being considered significant at the local level as they include polls for several newly formed Nagar Panchayats and vacant Panchayat positions. The outcomes are expected to influence local governance and development priorities in the concerned regions.

Election Schedule Was Announced in May

The State Election Commission had announced the schedule for urban local body and three-tier Panchayat by-elections in May. Following the notification, the nomination, scrutiny, and withdrawal processes were completed. Voting took place on June 1, while counting and declaration of results are being conducted today, June 4.

According to the Election Commission, special arrangements were made to ensure peaceful and fair elections. Security forces were deployed during voting, while sensitive polling stations remained under additional surveillance.

Focus on 5 Chairperson and 71 Councillor Posts

In urban local body elections, voting was conducted for a total of 5 chairperson posts and 71 councillor seats. These include elections in newly formed Nagar Panchayats as well. Special attention is on results from Ghummka in Rajnandgaon district, Bamhnidih in Janjgir-Champa district, Shivanandanpur in Surajpur district, and Palari Nagar Panchayat in Balod district.

These areas witnessed significant enthusiasm among voters as many were electing local representatives for the first time.

Important Decisions Await in Panchayat Polls

Under Panchayat elections, voting was conducted for 10 Janpad Panchayat member positions, 34 Sarpanch posts, and 107 Panch seats. Several constituencies are believed to have witnessed closely contested fights. Voters cast their ballots based on local issues, development work, and rural leadership, and the results will now reveal the outcome of those choices.

High Voter Turnout Recorded

Voter participation remained strong during polling held on June 1. In urban local body elections, 27,006 voters cast ballots out of 31,928 registered voters, resulting in a turnout of 84.58 percent.

Similarly, Panchayat elections recorded voting by 79,968 people out of 1,02,797 registered voters, taking turnout to 78.61 percent.

For polling arrangements, 96 polling stations were set up in urban areas and 274 polling centres in Panchayat regions. State Election Commissioner Ajay Singh had described the polling process as completely peaceful.

Candidates and Political Parties Await Results

Excitement surrounding the counting process has intensified among candidates and their supporters. Since voting concluded, claims and counterclaims regarding victory margins have continued. Several seats are expected to witness close contests, while discussions about one-sided outcomes are also being heard in certain regions.

Although local body and Panchayat elections are officially contested on a non-party basis, their results are often viewed as indicators of grassroots political strength and organisational influence. For this reason, major political parties in the state are closely watching today's results.
