A nearly 12-foot-long python weighing around 50 kg was rescued from a farmer’s field in Gulli-Dand village of Pendra area in Chhattisgarh’s Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district. According to local residents, the python had swallowed a cat before it was spotted in the agricultural field.
The sighting quickly attracted people from the surrounding area. After being informed, local snake rescuer Dwarika Kol reached the spot from Pendra and carried out the rescue operation. The python was eventually captured safely and released in a forest away from the village.
Python Spotted in Farmer’s Field
The incident was reported in Gulli-Dand village, where villagers noticed the large python in a farmer’s field.
Residents said the snake was approximately 12 feet long and weighed about 50 kg. Its unusually large size drew the attention of people in the area, with a crowd gathering near the field after news of the python spread.
According to the villagers, the snake had already swallowed a cat that was present in the field.
Snake Rescuer Called to the Spot
After learning about the python, residents contacted Dwarika Kol, a local snake rescuer known for responding to reports of snakes entering residential and other populated areas.
Kol travelled from Pendra to the village and began the rescue after assessing the situation.
Given the reported size and weight of the python, the operation required caution. The snake was handled carefully to avoid injury to both the animal and people gathered at the site.
12-Foot Python Rescued Safely

The presence of a large crowd around the field made maintaining a safe distance important during the operation. Once the snake was brought under control, it was moved away from the populated area.
The python was later transported and released in a forest, allowing it to return to a natural habitat away from the village.
Villagers Relieved After Rescue
The successful rescue brought relief to residents of Gulli-Dand, particularly because the python had been found close to an agricultural area where people regularly work.
The incident also became a talking point in the village because of the reported size of the snake. Residents appreciated the timely response of the snake rescuer and the decision to release the python rather than harm it.
Dwarika Kol Has Rescued Snakes Before
Dwarika Kol has previously been reported in local media for rescuing snakes from homes and public premises in the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi region and releasing them in forest areas. Reports have described him as a local snake rescuer who responds to calls involving both venomous snakes and pythons. (Navbharat Times)

Residents Urged to Avoid Handling Snakes
Snake sightings can increase during the monsoon when snakes may move from waterlogged or disturbed habitats towards areas occupied by people. In such situations, residents should maintain a safe distance and contact trained rescuers or the relevant authorities instead of attempting to catch or kill the animal themselves.
The Gulli-Dand incident ended without harm to the python, which was returned to a forest area after the rescue.
