Woman Found Dead in Raigarh Forest, Suspected Electrocution from Poachers’ Trap

The body of a 41-year-old woman was discovered in the Jivri forest of Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh, raising concerns over the use of electrified wires by poachers.

Authorities suspect that the woman may have come into contact with high-voltage wires set up illegally to trap wild animals. Police have seized the wires and other related items from the scene for further investigation.

The incident occurred in the Punjipathra police station area. Ghanshin Manjhi, a resident of Jivri village, had gone missing on Thursday, prompting her family to file a missing person report. On Saturday, villagers walking through the forest stumbled upon her body, lying face down.

News of the discovery quickly spread across the village, and a large number of villagers alerted the police, who reached the site and initiated preliminary investigations. The body was documented and sent for post-mortem examination.

Seized Items and Ongoing Investigation

Police believe the woman’s death may have been caused by contact with electrified wires set up by poachers targeting wild animals. The recovered items from the site include high-voltage wires and other poaching equipment. Investigations are ongoing.

Pattern of Fatal Accidents from Poachers’ Traps

Raigarh has witnessed repeated incidents involving poachers using electric traps. In just the past 12 days, multiple deaths have occurred, including a local agricultural officer in Gudbahal Bahma village (Lailunga block) on October 14 and an elephant in the Kerakhol area of Tamnar range on Monday. Authorities are warning villagers to exercise caution in forest areas.
